Twenty one of the thirty five girls’ lacrosse coaches participated in the first weekly US Lacrosse/Coaches poll, and placed Foothill in the No. 1 spot for the week. Foothill’s average rating of 1.52 is about a hanging chad better than No. 2 Mater Dei’s average ranking of 1.67. Los Alamitos, the seven-time defending Southern Section champs are in third place. Pacific Coast League rivals Beckman and Woodbridge complete the Top 5. Aliso Niguel, Temecula Valley and St. Margaret’s round out the Top 8, significant because the top eight playoff seeds earn home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
Speaking of the playoffs, Santa Margarita, Mission Viejo, Great Oak, Tesoro, and Northwood are bunched up in Nos. 14 through 18. With only 16 teams making the playoffs and two weeks of play remaining game, these five teams should already be looking at their games as must wins with post season play on the line.
