13 Not So Unlucky for CdM

No. 2 Corona del Mar remained the only undefeated team in Orange County by beating No. 4 J Serra 9-3 on Monday night.  The Sea Kings improved to 13-0 with the win.

The teams traded the first four goals of the game with Jake Schleppy (High Point) scoring first to give the Lions a 1-0 head start. Stephen Von Der Ahe responded with the first of his two goals to tie the game. J Serra’s Matt Karzak and CdM’s Sherwin Gersten brought it to 2-2 before the CdM defense clamped down.

Niño Chavez started the CdM five-goal run that put the game out of reach, Max Kline followed Chavez’ with three in a row, and then a Ben Palitz goal put CdM in front 7-2.  Yuta Murata scored J Serra’s final goal before Jordan Greenhall (1 goal, 2 assists) and Von der Ahe reached the final score of 9-3.

Jason Simaan won 12 faceoffs to help keep the ball in Sea King hands for most of the night.  Hoyt Crance made six saves. Brian Leguay (3 groundballs), Brett Greenlee and Hugh Crance were instrumental in holding the high powered J Serra offense to just nine shots on goal.

No. 2 CdM (13-0) travels to No. 3 St. Margaret’s (15-2) on Thursday in a game that will be watched closely by the seeding committee and the polls.  J Serra (9-4; 3-0) hosts Servite (4-8; 0-2) in a Trinity League tilt on Wednesday
