#1 Dawson and #3 Conifer had an epic battle on the lacrosse field Wednesday afternoon. The two teams played stingy defense in the first quarter with Dawson taking a 2-1 lead at the end of the quarter. The offense for both teams picked up in the second quarter with each team scoring 4 goals apiece before halftime. Conifer took control of the third quarter with tight defense and hustle for the ground balls. They took a 9-8 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lobos strong defensive play continued in the first part of the fourth quarter and they increased their lead to 11-8 before the Mustangs began their comeback. Dawson’s goalie Chad Dunnell and some key saves throughout the game but came up huge in the fourth quarter and both overtimes to keep Dawson’s hopes alive. Dawson rallied from 3 down with a little over three minutes remaining to tie the game on a goal by Gavin Pure with 4 seconds left on the clock. Dawson controlled both overtime periods and had an excellent opportunity in the first period to win it but came up a little short. Gavin Pure took a pass from a doubled Wyatt Watts and softly put it into the back of the net for the game winner. The Mustangs were lead in scoring by Jesse Rosenblatt with 4 goals and 1 assist, Gavin Pure with 3 goals and 6 assists, Hunter and Wyatt Watts each with 2 goals and an assist. Conifer leading scorer was Nick Williams with 3 goals.
